  • TapGoods is a marketplace where people can rent goods to and from each other.

How does TapGoods work?

  • TapGoods is like having access to several hundred of your closest friends’ garages. You can rent goods as you need them or make money by renting items out that you’re not using. It’s as simple as that.

What kind of stuff can I find or list on TapGoods?

  • From a guitar to a pressure washer to a bouncy house for your 3-year-old’s birthday, TapGoods is your go-to place for renting tools, home and garden equipment, sports gear, party supplies, and stuff related to hobbies. But although we have more types of stuff than your pack-rat aunt, we don’t currently rent motor vehicles, watercraft, clothing, or jewelry.

How does the stuff get from Point A to Point B?

  • Get ready to feel empowered – it’s up to you. Choose from one of four ways:
    • 1) the owner drops the item off,
    • 2) the renter picks it up,
    • 3) both agree on a safe place to meet, or
    • 4) the renter pays a small fee for professional delivery via TapGoods Door-to-Door Just tell us what you prefer when you register and then you can work out the details during the rental process.

I’m not sure about someone coming to my house or going to someone else’s house.

  • No worries. You can either meet up somewhere (a coffee shop, police or fire station, library, etc.) or TapGoods Door-to-Door, TapGoods’ professional delivery service.

What is the cancellation policy?

  • The renter has the ability to cancel item(s) that they have rented up to 24 hours before the rental date. The renter is charged 24 hours prior to rental date.

Can a renter negotiate a rental fee with the owner for a specific item?

  • Yes, a renter is able to negotiate fees and terms with the owner once an inquiry has been sent about an item.

How do I pay for my rental?

  • It’s totally secure and simple. You just pay by credit or debit card, and our payment processing partner (Braintree, a division of PayPal) manages the transaction and keeps it safe. That way, no one but Braintree – not even TapGoods or the owner – ever sees your credit card info.

Does the renter have to pay a percentage of the rental fee upfront?

  • No, the renter is charged in full 24 hours prior to the rental start date.

I’m looking for something super specific – how do I narrow my search?

  • It’s as easy as a couple of clicks! On the search results page, the filters you see to the left are your friends. You can easily select different search parameters such as distance of the item, the price range, or even the choice of item you are looking for.

Who sets the rental price?

  • You do. You can pick a daily, weekly, and/or monthly rate – whatever works for you. We offer a guideline (5% of your purchase price for a daily rate, 15% for weekly, and 30% for monthly), but it’s really up to you.

What does TapGoods charge?

  • You don’t have to pay anything to join or to list items. We do have some bills to pay though, so you keep 80% of the rental fee, and we keep 20%. There is a minimum TapGoods fee of $2 per rental. We get paid only when you get paid. Pretty sweet deal, eh?!

I’m really attached to my stuff. What if someone damages or steals it?

  • If so, we’ve got your back. With the TapGoods Guarantee, we will make sure that if anything you list on TapGoods is damaged or stolen while it's rented out, you’ll be fully covered, up to $10,000. See details here. If you have an issue, your first step will be to try to work out a solution with the renter. And, we’re here to help.

How do I put my stuff up for rent?

  • Trust us, it is easy as pie. Snap a few photos of the items you would like to put on the site to rent. Upload them, describe each item, and set the rental price. And that’s all folks! You are done!

How do I get paid?

  • Our payment processing company, a division of PayPal, puts money into your bank account. They take payment from the renter before the rental and then distribute the funds when the rental is complete. You don’t have to worry about a thing except for having some extra spending cash.

When is an owner paid for a rental transaction?

  • TapGoods immediately pays out the owner once the owner has closed out the transaction on the website and the condition of the item has been verified. The payment is deposited directly in the owner’s bank account and could take a standard 3-5 days to post due to bank processing time.

Help! I forgot my username or password!

  • No worries – even MENSA members forget stuff every now and then. Luckily, TapGoods has you covered! Your user name is the email address you used to register. To re-set your password, go to the sign in page and click the Forgot Password option. We’ll email a link to change your information and get you on your way.

How can I close my TapGoods account?

  • Oh no! We’re sad to see you go, but we totally understand that priorities can change. Just scroll down to the bottom of any page, click on the Contact Us link and we will get you taken care of.
